The law enforcement training academy is no laughing matter especially the first couple weeks, where instructors will try to break you mentally. You’ll come to realize that the police academy is not for the weak. You’ll be on a short leech throughout the academy. If you fail any of the training courses like criminal law, evasive driving, and/or crime scene investigation procedures you’ll be booted from the academy. You will not be given a third or fourth chance to pass exams that you’ve already failed.

Jonathan McHugh is the first winner of the George Krupica Police Academy Award.
George Krupica, an Ulster County Community College graduate and retired law enforcement officer, established the award with the Ulster Community College Foundation.
The award will be presented annually to the graduate with the highest cumulative grade point average at the SUNY Ulster Police Academy, a collaboration of Ulster County Community College and the Ulster County Law Enforcement Training Group.
McHugh received the award at the Dec. 11 Police Academy graduation at Hillside Restaurant in Kingston.

At a ceremony held recently to honor the graduates of the Southwestern Illinois College Police Academy Session 110, Officer Jonathan R. Costello of the Granite City Police Department  accepts his graduation certificate from Chief Joe Edwards of the Columbia Police Department and president of the Southern Illinois Police Chief’s Association. Costello was a runner up for the Best Overall in Physical Fitness award. Police Academies across the nation tend to follow state by state requirements.  Usually there is a governing authority for civil service that will place the standards for the Police Academy on a state by state basis; however as general rule we will give you some of the requirements that are generally accepted nationwide.
Many Police Academies do not allow open enrollment, however some states require you to be certified before applying for a Police Officer position with a municipality.  Some police academies require that you are hired by a police agency …
