After an eight-year hiatus, Anniston police are once again sponsoring a week-long Youth Police Academy for Calhoun County teenagers considering careers in law enforcement.
The academy will be July 25 through July 29 at the Alabama Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 4 in Weaver.
Twenty-seven teenagers from high schools across the county have signed up to participate in the program, which offers a glimpse into the kinds of physical, legal and technological training a person must have before becoming a police officer.

Eustis police are taking applications for the first-ever Eustis Citizen Police Academy.
Police spokeswoman Cpl. Misti Mohrenne said Monday the department wants to teach residents “why we do what we do and how we do it.”
Many people have expressed interest in learning about the actions of the Eustis Police Department, spurring the class, Mohrenne said.
“For some, it’s because they don’t like the way we do things; some just want to learn,” she said. “It’s a very basic overview of what we learn at the (police) academy.”

After weeks of training, 17 Gwinnett citizens are now armed with knowledge to help bridge the gap between the police and the community. They just completed the Gwinnett County Police Department’s 21st Citizens Police Academy.

The Pompton Lakes Riverdale Junior Police Academy is accepting applications for students entering the sixth, seventh, or eighth grades in September.
Those interested can pick up an application at the Pompton Lakes Police Department, 25 Lenox Ave., Pompton Lakes. The Junior Police Academy is a week-long program being held July 11-15 at the Lenox School in Pompton Lakes. There is a $25 enrollment fee. The White House Police Department hosted its 11th annual Citizen’s Police Academy graduation April 26 with 24 citizens from Robertson and Sumner counties completing the program.
The students attended class one night a week for 10 weeks, learning and participating in group discussions with the officers and other agency personnel to gain a better understanding about the police department’s function, daily operations, as well as crime prevention strategies.

The Holly Springs Police Department will be hosting the first Citizen’s Police Academy every Tuesday in June and July from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., said Lt. Tanya Smith.
The purpose of the academy is to give residents a firsthand look at the responsibilities of the police department.

The Collinsville Police Department will host its 10th Citizens Police Academy beginning on Tuesday, May 17. Classes will run from 6:30-9 p.m. on Tuesdays through July 5 at the police department’s training room, 200 W. Clay St.
