A ceremony was held Wednesday morning for a group of new officers who have graduated from the Allegheny County Police Academy.
The ceremony was held at 10 a.m. to graduate 57 new officers, including six Allegheny County police officers, four new Allegheny County sheriff deputies and one officer for the district attorney.
Nine others will now be working for police departments in Allegheny and Beaver Counties.
The other 37 graduates paid their way through the academy and will now be looking for a position with local police departments.

Moose Jaw Police Service’s new K-9 unit has graduated from it’s five-month training program.
Constable Chad Scheske and his German Shepherd Banan along with Constable Jay Sills and his dog “Andy” received certificates for Drug Detection and General duties at the Board of Police Commissioners regular meeting Tuesday at City Hall.
The two German Shepherd are now two years old and are brothers from the same litter born in Washington State. Brian Amm of Canine Resources and Consulting says Shepherd are often chosen as police dogs because of their reliability.

The Rocky Mount Police Department’s 16th Police Academy will hold its graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Nash Community College in the B&I Center.
Twelve police cadets will graduate from the Academy. The Rocky Mount Police Department extended and invitation to the community to celebrate the graduates’ accomplishments.
Eight of these cadets were hired as part of a grant received from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services COPS Hiring Recovery Program (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act).

Jonathan McHugh is the first winner of the George Krupica Police Academy Award.
George Krupica, an Ulster County Community College graduate and retired law enforcement officer, established the award with the Ulster Community College Foundation.
The award will be presented annually to the graduate with the highest cumulative grade point average at the SUNY Ulster Police Academy, a collaboration of Ulster County Community College and the Ulster County Law Enforcement Training Group.
McHugh received the award at the Dec. 11 Police Academy graduation at Hillside Restaurant in Kingston.

At a ceremony held recently to honor the graduates of the Southwestern Illinois College Police Academy Session 110, Officer Jonathan R. Costello of the Granite City Police Department  accepts his graduation certificate from Chief Joe Edwards of the Columbia Police Department and president of the Southern Illinois Police Chief’s Association. Costello was a runner up for the Best Overall in Physical Fitness award. Harford County Sheriff L. Jesse Bane and Warden Elwood Dehaven are pleased to announce the 18th graduating class of Entrance Level Correctional Officers. The ceremony held on Thursday, November 12th and honored four graduates: Kevin Kegley, Sarah S. Phillips, Schultz Jr., Andrew M. Van Helten. Sarah S. Phillips was named class valedictorian. Kevin Kegley was selected by his peers to place the ceremonial class flag onto the “guide on”, an honor bestowed on him by his fellow classmates.

Friday’s graduation ceremony for the Abilene Police Department Academy No. 49 was marked by many firsts.
The group was Chief Stan Standridge’s first, and the cadets were the first class to give a donation to a member of the community, Love & Care Ministries.

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Police Department welcomes 13 new officers after the Police Academy graduation Friday evening. Even with these new officers, LPD is still nearly 50 officers short of what they should have.
The class started off with 20 recruits but only 13 made it through the academy, bringing LPD’s total to 374 sworn officers. That’s 48 shy of the 422 authorized amount of officers the city should have.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 28th Session of the Newport News Citizen Police held it’s graduation ceremony at 7:00 p.m., December 10, 2009, at Police Headquarters.
The Academy provides ordinary citizens the opportunity to learn about police training and operations. Utilizing lectures, simulations, and field trips, the students develop a greater understanding of the workings of the police department.
The course runs 13 weeks, one night a week, and is taught by instructors from throughout the police department.
This session produced 12 graduates with a multitude of diverse backgrounds.
