The Holly Springs Police Department will be hosting the first Citizen’s Police Academy every Tuesday in June and July from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., said Lt. Tanya Smith.
The purpose of the academy is to give residents a firsthand look at the responsibilities of the police department.
Applications are due back to Officer Greg Bettis at the Holly Springs Police Department no later than May 27. Only 12 applicants will be accepted, and those will go on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Collinsville Police Department will host its 10th Citizens Police Academy beginning on Tuesday, May 17. Classes will run from 6:30-9 p.m. on Tuesdays through July 5 at the police department’s training room, 200 W. Clay St.
The program, which will be taught by officers from the Collinsville Police Department along with guest speakers from other agencies, is designed to give Collinsville residents a realistic view of police work by providing instruction on different aspects of law enforcement.

Vigo County law enforcement is giving kids an opportunity to see what they do first-hand.
Applications are now available for this year’s Junior Police Academy.
Fourth, 5th and 6th grade students can apply through their school.
The cost is $30.
Kids can learn about self defense, 911 dispatch, investigations, arrests and much more.
The academy takes place in June, applications are due May 20th.

The Chesapeake Police Department started its 28th Session of the Citizen’s Police Academy on Monday.
The Citizen’s Police Academy is open to all citizens of Chesapeake who are 18 years of age or older to learn about police work and how the department operates.
It allows people to check out real aspects of law enforcement including K-9 and SWAT.
There will also be opportunities to ride along with an officer during his or her shift.

Thirty Madison residents are getting an up-close and behind-the-scenes look into the Madison Police Department, as the second-annual Citizens’ Police Academy got underway Tuesday, March 22.
The five-week program meets each Tuesday at the Police Department from 6-8:30 p.m., and it is designed to enhance the department’s relationship with the community it serves, while also educating residents on the structure, specializations and capabilities of the Madison force.

Things got really bad really fast for Jack Codeanne.
He had been dispatched to a call where a distraught woman was lurking behind a convenience store. Codeanne tried talking to the woman in a soothing voice, but she got even more agitated and pulled out a knife. Just then a customer offered to help.
“I’m a nurse,” she said. “Let me talk to her.”

applications for the 2011 State Police Citizens’ Police Academy.
The academy provides citizens with information and hands-on training in a variety of Connecticut State Police-related topics. The Citizens’ Police Academy will be conducted by Connecticut State Police Academy instructors, who will share their knowledge and experiences from a training perspective.

The Prescott Valley Police Department invites residents to get an inside look at law enforcement operations by attending a Spring 2011 Citizens Police Academy.
