Law enforcement officers are sharing their duties and expertise with area children as part of this week’s 11th annual Junior Police Academy.
The activities began Monday at the Montgomery Police Department’s outdoor range on Old Hayneville Road and will continue throughout the week.
Participants in the academy are soon-to-be sixth-graders from the Weed and Seed area of west Montgomery.
During the weeklong camp, law enforcement officers from different departments will hold demonstrations, give speeches and offer their expertise to the children.

Those interested in taking a closer look at the daily lives of Sierra Vista’s finest will have the chance thanks to an upcoming 12-week course taught by officers and department staff themselves.

The law enforcement training academy is no laughing matter especially the first couple weeks, where instructors will try to break you mentally. You’ll come to realize that the police academy is not for the weak. You’ll be on a short leech throughout the academy. If you fail any of the training courses like criminal law, evasive driving, and/or crime scene investigation procedures you’ll be booted from the academy. The Oswego Police Department will be conducting the next Citizen’s Police Academy from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for twelve weeks beginning March 11. Members of the police department are excited by the success of its first-ever Citizens Police Academy, so they’re applying for grants to continue the program next year.
