Southaven Police Department Citizens Police Academy scheduled to start
The Southaven Police Department announced this week that it is accepting applications for its 9th Annual Citizens Police Academy.
The 12-week academy is set for 6:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Feb. 22, at the department on Northwest Drive adjacent to the M.R. Davis Public Library and City Hall.
Classes will be taught primarily by Southaven police officers but also officers from other area law enforcement agencies and include topics such as patrol operations, communications, investigations, SWAT, K9, traffic, search and rescue, the DeSoto County Jail and narcotics.
The academy is limited to 25 participants and open to any DeSoto County residents 21 years or older.
To register, pick up an application at the Southaven Police Department, or download one from www.southaven.org.
Anyone interested in participating is urged to apply soon as the Citizens Police Academy has filled quickly in previous years.
For more information, contact Lt. Jerald Wheeler, CPA Co-coordinator, at 662-342-3581 or email jwheeler@southaven.org.
