Kevin Olson, the administrator of the police academy, said, “We’re excited we’ve had a good construction season. We’re on track and on time, and as you can see the campus is tore up, we’re kind of in full-blown construction because we have two construction projects going simultaneously, but we’re fairly excited.”

During the 2008 oil boom officials say it was difficult to find enough men and women willing and able to make the cut.

Budget cuts are forcing the Des Moines Police Department to delay this year’s police academy — indefinitely. Officials say the department typically starts the application process in November and the academy begins in July. Currently, the entire process in on hold, with no word on when it might begin.

The latest crop of police recruits will begin basic training in the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy on Monday, January 5.
Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero said that 22 recruits from 10 law enforcement agencies will be participating in the six-month training session, which will be held at the Ontario County Safety Training Center in Hopewell . Recruits are scheduled to graduate July 15 at a ceremony at the auditorium of the Canandaigua Academy.
