Every so often, you hear a gripe about a police officer.
Sometimes it’s about an officer’s driving. Sometimes it’s an attitude during a stop. Sometimes, it’s unfair. Sometimes, it’s warranted.

The Goodyear Police Department is holding a Teen Citizen Police Academy next month that will show youths how a police department works.
The program targets those interested in a career in law enforcement but is open to any teenager. The two-week program will expose teen to public safety, including the medical and legal aspects, police said. They also will complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and earn their certification.
Teens will learn about the Police Department, including crime scene investigations, SWAT, and the motorcycle, detective and K-9 units.

DEMOPOLIS — The first-ever Citizens Police Academy session got under way on Thursday at the Demopolis Police Department.
The eight-week program is supervised by police chief Tommie Reese and is geared towards showing the public how the police department works and other information about police work.
In the first session, the 14 participants were greeted with an introduction to the course by Reese and Demopolis mayor Mike Grayson.

Mayor Larry Morrissey and Police Chief Epperson will be the keynote speakers at the ceremony. Graduates and their guests will also have an opportunity to observe the K-9 and Bomb Squad robot demonstrations.

11-week Citizen Police Academy (CPA)
BACKGROUND
Introduced in March of 1994, the CPA graduated its first class of 41 members in June, 1994 (Class 94-01). As of December, 2009, there have been over 3000 graduates of the CPA program.
Due to such enthusiastic citizen response and interest, CPA classes are offered four times a year, with classes starting in January, April, July and September. Class size is limited to 40 persons. The Gender Responsive Policing (GRP) project in collaboration with National Police Bureau is organising a training programme for police officers commencing on tomorrow (Monday) at National Police Academy, Islamabad.
Mid-career police officers and those performing their duties as trainers have been selected from across the country for this programme.

Twenty local police officers had their hands full Friday night with six very intoxicated people – all so they know how to spot drunk drivers.
Newport News police held police academy DUI training. Volunteers attended what appeared to be a typical office party – with finger foods, music, and lots of alcohol.

Enrollees in the Pataskala Citizens Police Academy learn about those sorts of commonplace police procedures.

In an effort to increase the community involvement with the Fayetteville Police Department and offer insight into the services it provides, the department will be hosting the fourth annual Citizens Police Academy at the Fayetteville Police Department. The purpose of the academy is to foster better communication between citizens and police through education.
The Citizens Police Academy will consist of two-hour classes held each week on Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., for 12 weeks. This instruction is comprehensive, covering a different area of the Police Department each week.
