The Oswego Police Department will be conducting the next Citizen’s Police Academy from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for twelve weeks beginning March 11. Classes will be held in the Community Room at the Oswego Law Enforcement Center, 3525 US Route 34. Classes are free and size will be limited to 20 participants. Eligible applicants must be 18 years of age, reside in, own property or operate a business within the Village. .

Moose Jaw Police Service’s new K-9 unit has graduated from it’s five-month training program.
Constable Chad Scheske and his German Shepherd Banan along with Constable Jay Sills and his dog “Andy” received certificates for Drug Detection and General duties at the Board of Police Commissioners regular meeting Tuesday at City Hall.
The two German Shepherd are now two years old and are brothers from the same litter born in Washington State. Brian Amm of Canine Resources and Consulting says Shepherd are often chosen as police dogs because of their reliability.

Dayton, Ohio Residents curious about the inner workings of their local police department are participating in Middletown’s first Citizens Police Academy.
About 18 residents and business owners — including former city councilmen Tony Marconi and Chris Amburgey — attended the first of 12 sessions held Tuesday, Feb. 2. The academy is free to those who signed up.
Participants will receive hands-on training in gun safety, operating a radar device and use of force with beanbag guns and Tasers.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will host a Citizen’s Police Academy beginning March 9.
The program will run for 11 consecutive Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and there will be two Saturday sessions of practical instruction.
Hands-on activities will include exercises using a firearms training simulator and training in citizen emergency response techniques.
Classes will be at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division.

Residents can get an inside look at the Edmond Police Department during a 13-week Citizens Police Academy.
The 27th academy starts Feb. 9. Classes are free.
“The goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to provide residents with a better understanding about what an Edmond police officer does on a daily basis as well as to provide information about the Edmond Police Department,” said officer Randy Payne.

Applications are now being accepted for Fairfield Township’s Citizens Police Academy, which is tentatively scheduled to begin Jan. 19.
“It’s a chance for the residents and people who work in the township to see how their police department operates,” said Michael Oler, commander of the academy. “The news story side of what happens that you see on TV sometimes isn’t the full picture. Going through the academy will give a more balance view of what really goes on.”

Jonathan McHugh is the first winner of the George Krupica Police Academy Award.
George Krupica, an Ulster County Community College graduate and retired law enforcement officer, established the award with the Ulster Community College Foundation.
The award will be presented annually to the graduate with the highest cumulative grade point average at the SUNY Ulster Police Academy, a collaboration of Ulster County Community College and the Ulster County Law Enforcement Training Group.
McHugh received the award at the Dec. 11 Police Academy graduation at Hillside Restaurant in Kingston.

Registration is open for the Sugar Land Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy. The 13-week course begins Jan. 21, with students meeting once a week from 7-10 p.m.
While learning about the challenges faced by police officers, laws affecting citizens, the judicial system and emergency management, participants personally interact with officers, detectives and other personnel in a nontraditional law enforcement setting.

The Saginaw Police Department is about to hire 10 new officers.
Saginaw is one of 253 departments statewide and more than 7,000 nationally to receive federal stimulus dollars, awarded in late July to cities with the “poorest fiscal health” and “highest levels of crime,” said Gilbert Moore, spokesman for the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
Saginaw Police Chief Gerald H. Cliff said the city will use the $1.12 million grant to hire five police officers, whose salaries will be subsidized by the grant for the next three years.
